This is a comparative study of the Europeanized Chinese in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting between professional interpreters and student interpreters. With empirical methods, this study mainly investigates the Europeanized Chinese in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting at lexical level and syntax level. It aims to answer the following four questions.First, what are the similarities and differences between professional interpreters and student interpreters on Europeanized Chinese in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting? Secondly,is the Europeanization degree related to the professionality of interpreters? Third, what are the Chinese native speakers' attitude and acceptability of Europeanized Chinese? Fourth, what are the causes and solutions of Europeanized Chinese in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting?Firstly, this study adopts the experimental research.Nine student interpreters and five professional interpreters were recruited for this study. The interpreting material is Tim Cook's speech at the commencement of Yale University in 2019.This thesis takes Wang's(1943)and He's(2008)definition of Europeanized Chinese as the standard to evaluate Europeanized Chinese.According to the standard, the Europeanized Chinese of the experimental text is classified and analyzed. The total number of Europeanized sentences of the experimental subjects is counted with the Europeanization rate calculated. And the relationship between Europeanization rate and the professional level of the interpreter is analyzed. At the same time, the study also sent out questionnaires based on the experimental questions,to understand the attitude of Chinese native speakers towards Chinese Europeanization, and to analyze the possible causes of Europeanization in simultaneous interpreting. This study finds that the Chinese Europeanization of professional interpreters and student interpreters is characterized at lexical level and syntax level.Lexical level includes the increase of copula, unnecessary preposition, redundant conjunctions, increased quantifiers, and more dynamic verbs. And syntax level involves the passive sentence and clause postposition.Although the interpreter can predict the context and logic by judgment, they cannot accurately predict the detailed information of the speaker. In this sense, the clause postposition is a normal Europeanization in EnglishChinese simultaneous interpreting. In addition,it is also found that the more professional the interpreter is,the lower the Europeanization rate is.The questionnaire shows that subjects hold different views about the same Europeanized Chinese. There are objective and subjective reasons for Europeanized Chinese in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting.Objectively,it is a negative transfer between English and Chinese.Subjectively, some interpreters are weak in listening ability,Chinese literacy, language awareness, and simultaneous interpreting experience. To solve those problems, interpreting teachers are supposed to improve students' language awareness of Europeanized Chinese and help them distinguish Europeanized Chinese from the translationese. At the same time, interpreting learners are able to improve their listening ability, read more classics and increase their simultaneous interpreting practice. The results of this study provide useful suggestions for the future study of simultaneous interpreting quality assessment and task-based teaching.
