This is an English-Chinese translation report on an educational text about foreign language teaching,Teaching English as a Foreign Language.The source text is the Foreword and the first three chapters from it.This book mainly talks about the fundamental issues and principles of teaching English as a foreign language(TEFL)in a theoretical and practical way.It is an instructive and inspirational text to a great number of future teachers who will teach English as a foreign language.It aims to equip them with the necessary knowledge,skills and attitudes to teach to the best of their abilities and become professional practitioners with a great amount of competence,self-confidence and flexibility.This report has five parts which starts with a brief description of the background,significance,and organization of the translation report,and then provides an introduction of the source text and the author along with the applied translation tools.The whole process of translation is under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,applying both literal and free translation strategy.The translator adopts Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory for the analysis of the problems in the translation process and their solutions respectively at the lexical,syntactic and discourse level.The translator tries to accurately convey the information of the source text by applying the appropriate translation strategies and methods after the analysis of the structure and feature of the source text.
