Language is the product of society, and vocabulary can best reflect the development of the society.Studying the official appellation words is one of the important ways to interpret the official system at that time.“Changsha Zoumalou Wu Kingdom bamboo and wood slips”(abbreviated as Wu slips)refers to the bamboo and wood slips excavated in 1996 from the No.22 shaft kiln in Zoumalou street of Changsha Wuyi Square, which is mainly local administrative documents and bookkeeping of Wu Kingdom in the period of three kingdoms. If we want to study the local official system of Sun Wu with the help of the materials,it is one of the urgent problems to make clear the multifarious official appellations terms in Wu slips. The Seventh Volume of Changsha Zoumalou Wu Kingdom Bamboo and Wood Slips(abbreviated as the Seventh Wu slips)has many documents about administrative communication,in which official titles are very rich. Therefore, with referencing other volumes of Wu slips and integrating knowledge of traditional exegetics, modern linguistics, paleography, and history, etc,we will take the official appellations terms in the Seventh Wu slips as the research objects, and mainly discuss their specific connotations, especially the words that are not explained and controversial. The thesis is divided into three chapters as follows:The first chapter is introduction, which mainly expounds the reasons for the topic selection and illustrates research status, thinking, methods and guide, with a brief description of the research materials and significances. The second chapter is the systematic examination about official appellation words of the Seventh Wu slips. It's the first time that the official appellation terms of the volume are thoroughly sorted out,and 81 words are discussed in depth.According to the main duty of officials,we divide the words into six categories which are related to warehouse, agriculture, market, military science, document,or others. With Wu slips asthe core and other literatures as references, this paper analyzes each kind of appellation nouns one by one, aiming to define these words from officials' setting, duties and positions during the Sun Wu period generally. The third chapter will summarize the characteristics of the official appellation words in the Seventh Wu slips and introduce their values to the compilation of official dictionaries.Through analyzing the succession, new creation and use of official appellation words in the Seventh Wu slips, three phenomena are pointed out: most of the old words are inherited from the Han Dynasty, almost all the new terms are found in Wu slips alone, and many appellations often have another name, then the causes of the phenomena are discussed.Referencing to A Dictionary of Official System in China(revised edition)published recently,we find that most of official appellation nouns in the volume are not included in the dictionary and even those included also have some need to be revised, therefore,we compile the book by supplementary terms and correction of the interpretation. So it can be expected that our work could have certain reference value for providing conditions for further study of the local official system of Sun Wu,as well as refining and enriching the terms and meanings of official dictionaries. The body of the thesis is followed by appendixes that consist of an index of official appellation words discussed in the second capter,a list of some official appellation terms that we can't explain in the Seventh Wu slips, and the text collation for Wu slips.
