A Case Study Of Language Ecology On The Language Landscape Of 5A Touristic Attractions In Guizhou Province

The dissertation takes top-down signs and bottom-up signs of 5A touristic attractions in Guizhou province as the study object,and 727 valid language examples are collected during the study.It describes the overall situation of the language landscape,summarizes the language features of different signs,reveals its ecological features and points out many anti-ecological problems based on the example analysis.At last,it puts forward some countermeasures in order to promote the constuction of language ecology in Guizhou.The dissertation can be divided into six parts as follows:The first part introduces such contents as the background and meaning of the case study,the present situation of both theoretical study and empirical study on language landscape,the present situation of the language landscape of 5A touristic attractions in Guizhou province.The second part explains the study object of the paper and standards of language examples collection.The study object can be divided in two types.The first type is called top-down signs which include street names,names of scenic spots and all kinds of outdoor signs.The second type is call bottom-up signs such as names of shops and companies.This part also describes the genaral situation of the language landscape from the perspective of language form,language combination and language order.The third part summarizes the language features of scenic spots names,outdoor slogans and shops names,and reveals the ecological features of the language landscape of Guizhou 5A touristic attractions.The ecological features reflect as the standardized language using in internal language ecological environment.The interrelationship and interaction between language system and natural system,social system,culture system,crowd system also can be regarded as the ecological features of the language landscape ofGuizhou 5A touristic attractions from the perspective of external language ecological environment.The fourth part points out many anti-ecological problems with top-down signs and bottom-up signs.The case study reveals that there are problems like translation errors,non-uniform written form,non-standard use of pinyin,wrong placement of signs,delayed maintenance,lack of foreign languages,language pollution and so on.The fifth part makes a brief statement of the significance of language ecology construction,and puts forward some measures based on the findings of the study in order to promote the constuction of language ecology in Guizhou.The last part is conlusion part.The author summarizes the results of the case study and points out the limits of the thesis in this part.
