Technical Specification for Rehabilitation and Improvement of Bakolori Irrigation Scheme is the technical specification for Bakolori Irrigation Project in Nigeria. It is for internal use only, not for public publication.Technical specification is one of the contract documents of international contracting projects. It is of great significance to study the translation of technical specifications for international engineering and to be familiar with the standards and implementation of the project.Under the guidance of our tutor,we set up a translation team of Technical Specification for Rehabilitation and Improvement of Bakolori Irrigation Scheme.I have undertaken the translation tasks of the parts of Chapter Four and Chapter Six of the book. From the linguistic point of view, according to the nature of translation,Eugene A.Nida put forward the famous translation theory of "dynamic equivalence",namely"functional equivalence".On the specific operation level, the author draws on Rice's theory of text type on information-based text translation strategy.According to Rice's text type theory, the source text belongs to the typical "information type text",whose language function is to convey information(express things and facts),and whose language characteristic is strong logicality. Its text focus and translation purpose are content rather than form, therefore, the author uses Nida's "functional equivalence"theory, and combines Rice's text type theory. In order to guide the translation practice, this paper analyzes how to solve the difficulties in the translation of engineering technical standards from two levels of vocabulary and sentence pattern, such as professional vocabulary, modal verbs, passive sentences and long difficult sentences,in order to explore the guiding significance of functional equivalence theory in the translation of engineering technical standards. This translation report is divided into four parts:translation task description, translation process, translation case analysis, and translation practice summary. The first part of translation task description includes the source of translation task, the brief introduction of translation text, and the meaning of translation project. The second part includes preparation before translation, translation theory and practical application, revision, perfection and finalization of translation. The third part is translation case study, which is the most important part of this report. In this part, the author finds out 17 typical translation examples as the analysis objects, and explains the translation methods from different perspectives. The fourth part is the summary of translation practice, which is the author's Thoughts on the unsolved problems in this translation practice,as well as the inspiration and prospect for the future translation work.
