A C-E Translation Practice Report On Technical Specification Of Dry Farming In Dingxi City(Chapter 7-11)

Technical Specification of Dry Farming in Dingxi City is a specification of dry farming agricultural planting by Dingxi Agricultural Research and Extension Center.It is an agricultural and technical text that guides the whole process of Dingxi dry farming agriculture by formulating and implementing standards.According to the features of source text,the source text belongs to the informative text,and Newmark’s text typology theory is adopted.With the help of Newmark’s text typology theory,the author explores the difficulties and specific translation methods of agricultural science and technology texts during the translation process,aiming to provide effective information for relevant practitioners at home and abroad on dry farming technology in Dingxi City,Gansu Province,thus gaining more opportunities for economic development in Gansu Province.The report carries out a detailed analysis of the source text firstly from lexical,syntactic and textual levels under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory.It is found that the agricultural science and technology text is characteristic of informative text and some translation methods are able to be acquired in the process.With regard to lexical level,technical terms and expressions related to agriculture are required to be unified through searching for authoritative corpus and other official documents to ensure the objectivity and accuracy.As for the translation of some unique Chinese measurement units,it can be converted to international general measurement units flexibly.In terms of sentence translation,splitting and restructuring can be used to the run-on sentences in accordance with the source text.For those non-subject sentences,the author adopts the methods of adding the subject and converting to the passive voice.Moreover,the author also referred to parallel texts such as Propagation Techniques of Ornamental Plants so as to fully translate professional expressions and technical terms to realize the equivalence between the source text and the target text.It is suggested in this report that the translation quality should be improved with reference to some authoritative parallel texts and official corpus,especially the translation of agricultural science and technology texts.In addition,close analysis of the logical relationship between run-on sentences is vital to ensure the effective transmission of the original information.
