A Study Of Technical Text Translation From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

The emergence of dual-fuel engines can greatly reduce the emission of harmful substances and expand the source of fuels while ensuring the power output.Compared with foreign countries,the research on dual-fuel engines in China is still in the initial stage,which is out of step with the most advanced scientific and technological development in the world.It is of great practical significance to properly apply translation theory to translate relevant literature and introduce foreign cutting-edge technologies into China.The translation text of this thesis is excerpted from Dual-Fuel Diesel Engine.The book is a typical technical text,focusing on the structures and operating principles of different kinds of engines with strong logic and high coherence.The author chooses four chapters of Dual-Fuel Diesel Engine as the translation materials for E-C translation practice and discusses the application of functional equivalence theory to technical texts translation.Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory highlights the communicative function of translation with further improvement on the basis of the dynamic equivalence theory.The theory focuses on readers' reflection and strives to reproduce the original information in the closest and most natural,equivalent language.Therefore,taking the translation materials as the example,the author analyzes the linguistic features of technical texts at lexical,syntactic and textual level.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author applies appropriate translation methods and techniques to E-C translation practice in combination with the linguistic features and analyzes typical translation examples.Based on the research,the author believes that functional equivalence theory provides positive guidance for the translation of technical texts for the theory solves the difficulties of the translation,improves the quality of the translated text,enables the target language readers to fully understand technological principles expounded in the source text and comprehend the author's viewpoints,and attains the important purpose of spreading and conveying advanced scientific information of technical texts.
