As one of the most challengeable issues facing human beings in this era, climate change puts much pressure on the society and the environment where we are in.Countries from all over the world have been making great efforts to combat climate change. The discussions and studies on the Pacific, one of the areas badly influenced by climate change, can help other countries to respond to climate change, make relevant policies and take corresponding actions. In the book Combating Climate Change in the Pacific——the Role of Regional Organization, through collecting and discussing references on studying the climate change in the Pacific, the authors Marc Williams and Duncan McDuie-Ra probe into the roles that the regional organizations play in dealing with the climate change in the Pacific. This book explores how climate politics will impact the Pacific in the future. All of these in this book will give some experiences for other regions on combating climate change. This thesis consists of a translation version of over 20000-word English text and a translation practice report based on the translation. The source text is selected from chapters(3-5 chapters)of Combating Climate Change in the Pacific——the Role of Regional Organization, written by Marc Williams and Duncan McDuie-Ra.The report narrates the purposes and significance of this thesis and concludes the difficulties the translator has encountered in the process of translation, and then the translator analyzes them through the context and by better understanding the differences between Chinese and English. In this whole process of translation,in order to deliver the information of the source text better, the translator follows the translation shifts theory presented by J.C.Catford,a well-known English linguist and translation theorist, and mainly adopts translation methods such as amplification, recasting, division and conversion to shift the source text into a Chinese version. There are many long and complicated sentences, documents and acronyms in the source text.Through this translation practice, the translator figures out as for this kind of informative text, firstly, the translator should adhere to proper translation theory and take appropriate techniques.Besides, the translator is required to read various parallel texts. What's more, the translator needs to select suitable expressions to enable the source text to shift into a translation version that can satisfy the expression habits of target readers.Through this translation practice, the translator has acquired precious translation experience for the future translation work.
