By employing the method of experimental phonetics,we adopted some theories in terms of error analysis,contrastive analysis and tonal pattern,investigated the tone errors of 18 Nepalese Students who study Chinese and draw a conclusion on their learning of Chinese tone in order of increasing difficulty,explained the causes of the errors,put forward the teaching strategies that suits for them,hope it can enlighten the teaching of Chinese tone among the Nepalese Students who study Chinese.First,the 18 Nepalese students tested by recording in two parts: monosyllabic tone and disyllabic tone.Second,we used Praat to extract the pitch.Then we obtained a T-value by using T-value equation created by Shi Feng.Finally,we draw the tone pattern charts and made an acoustic analysis and description on the tonal errors of the Nepalese Students who study Chinese.Conclusion as follows:Through the analysis of the experimentation conducted on monosyllabic tones,it was concluded that the order of difficulty of monosyllabic tones by Nepalese students is as follows:the second tone> the first tone >the the third tone> fourth tone.In the experimental analysis on disyllabic tones,the results had determined that the Nepalese students had shown mastery in the usage of the fourth tone,and committed a lot of errors with the second tone.In the syllabic combination with the first tone,the main error of the Nepalese students was that the tone was too low.The error of the second tone was mainly caused by the confusion with the first and third tone.The Nepalese students can easily master the third tone by itself.However,in cases where the third tone is a preceding syllable,Nepalese students were unaware of the third tone sandhi,where they retained the tone in a manner of “drop then rise”.Then,we summarized that there are three main reasons causing Nepalese Chinese learners to make tonal errors while they were learning Chinese: the negative transfer between native language and the second language,the influence of teacher and textbook and the individual factors of learners.Finally,we took the fundamental principles for teaching foreigners Chinese phonetics as the guiding method,and put forward the corresponding scientific and practical teaching strategies according to the causes of tonal errors,and make empirical analysis on the proposed teaching strategies.The innovation of the thesis is that we use the method of experimental phonetics to ameliorate the research methods of predecessors and fill the gaps.Moreover,the predecessors have already investigated Nepalese Students who learn Chinese in respect of disyllabic tone,trisyllabic tone and quadrisyllabic tone,but they didn't investigated monosyllabic tone.Therefore,we added the study on tonal errors of monosyllabic tone in this thesis to achieve a more objective and comprehensive investigation.At the end,we put forward some teaching strategies that suit for Nepalese Students who learn Chinese,and make empirical analysis on these teaching strategies.
