Studies and practices in Humanities and Social Sciences have played an important role in the area of Chinese translation studies and practices. In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to the translation of Humanities and Social Sciences texts in China. In order to transmit the original information to target readers better, the translator follows the relevant translation theory which is consistent with the text type and uses appropriate translation skills to strive to improve the quality of the translation. The translator selects the 5th chapter of We Danced All Night: A Social History of Britain Between the Wars as the translation text. The original text belongs to the Humanities and Social Sciences text, which has the characteristics of standardized language, strong logical thinking, wide range of knowledge involved and close structural cohesion. When translating the original text, the translator uses the information theory put forward by Shannon,an American mathematician,as the guiding theory, and adopts appropriate translation techniques to accurately convey the original information to the target readers. The original text contains many words of British place names. In order to expand the channel capacity of the target readers, the translator adopts the amplification to supplement the administrative region information implied by some place names in the original text, while for the interdisciplinary words, the translator searches for their corresponding information in the subject field and then translates them accurately. In addition, since there are many long and difficult sentences in the original text, the translator first receives the information, then decodes the sentences preliminarily, distinguishes the sentence structure and the relationship between the sentences.Next, the translator processes the received information appropriately by using literal translation method to translate the sentences that conform to the Chinese expression habit, and adopting the division method to split the relatively long sentences to translate them into the corresponding short sentences. Finally, the translator adjusts orreorganizes the information. However,on the level of text cohesion, the original text mainly uses reference cohesion, lexical cohesion and structural cohesion. After understanding the relationship between the sentences in the text, the translator uses amplification and repetition to reduce the information transmission load. The significance of this translation practice lies in the following two aspects.First, the translation of the 5th chapter of We Danced All Night: A Social History of Britain Between the Wars can help the target readers have a better understanding of the development and changes of British social history in the period from the end of World War I to the beginning of World War II.Second, the translator hopes to do her best to contribute to China's development at this stage. In this report, the translator tries to introduce how Britain copes with the problem of unemployment in this period, what experiences can be used for reference and what lessons can be avoided.
