How to improve the quality and effect of English teaching for secondary vocational students has always been a concern of educational researchers. The vocational school students have a weak English foundation, and students are not so interested in English learning. In addition, traditional teaching mode pays too much attention to teachers' explanations and mechanical exercises, which makes students less interested in English learning. Therefore,English teaching has become a major difficulty in secondary vocational schools.Through the creation of vivid and specific scenes, situational teaching is an effective solution, which arouses students' certain emotional experience. It is of great significance to improve students' subject status, stimulate students' learning interest and cultivate good professional quality. The author finds that most of the English situational teaching research takes primary school students as participants.Studies of junior high school, senior high school and university students are relatively few,and studies of secondary vocational school and vocational college students are the fewest.Taking the students and characteristics of majors in secondary vocational schools into consideration, the author carried out an action research on applying situational teaching to the English teaching of cruise service major in secondary vocational schools. This study takes students from a vocational school, majored in cruise service as research participants, using questionnaires, test papers, interviews and presentation of cases as research tools. This thesis mainly studies two questions:(1)How can situational teaching approach be applied to secondary vocational school English teaching to raise students' interest in English learning?(2)How can situational teaching approach be applied to secondary vocational school English teaching to improve students' English proficiency? The author improved students' professional quality and linguistic performance byproviding physical objects, increasing game activities, creating situational scenes with professional characteristics, presenting diverse situations of teaching cases, and integrating work situations. After three rounds of action research, while paying attention to students' changes and continuous dynamic adjustment during the implementation process, the study finds that situational English teaching for the major of cruise service in secondary vocational schools stimulated students' interest in learning and improved their English level and the quality of English teaching.
