Learning motivation plays an important role in the cultivation of the students' English learning ability.Some researches show that if two students have similar levels of intelligence,the one with persistent and clear learning motivations is more likely to get good scores in all the courses including English.The English basis of the secondary vocational school students is usually poor,because their English learning motivation is not strong enough.If a teacher wants his students to learn English well,he must try to improve the students' learning motivations.In the process of conducting secondary vocational school's English teaching,the author tries to use situational teaching method,creating situations in which the students can communicate and interact in English.Solving practical problems with English will enhance students' learning motivations and interest and help them master vocabulary and grammar.Finally both their learning motivations and English using abilities will be improved.Situational teaching method is conducted widely in many middle schools and high schools,and studied by lots of researchers,but most of the researches purely focus on the way of increasing the students' school records,few of them involve how to cultivate the students' learning motivations.So based on self-efficacy theory and need-hierarchy theory,structuralism-theory of language and behaviorist habit-formation learning theory,the author's research mainly explores three questions:(1).What effects does situational teaching method have on the secondary vocational school students' learning motivation?(2).What effects does situational teaching method have on the secondary vocational school students' English scores?(3).What is the vocational school students' attitude towards Situational Language Teaching Method?This research adopts experimental method.Sixty students from Computer Class 1,Grade 2 of Jinchang Secondary Vocational School are chosen as participants.The author attempts to use situational teaching method to improve their learning motivations and English scores.The experimental instruments include questionnaires,the test paper of the pretest and the post-test,and the interview.This research mainly uses Descriptive Statistics and Paired Samples T-test of SPSS20.0 software.After a semester's experiment,by analyzing the data of questionnaires and tests before and after the experiment,the results show the following findings:(1)Situational teaching method can improve the students' learning motivations.The improvement ofintrinsic motivation is the highest,because the original intention is to increase the students' learning initiatives by cultivating their foreign language learning interest and inspire their intrinsic motivation.And the improvement of external motivation is the lowest,because situational teaching method involves relatively less contents on the cultivation of the students' external motivation.The promotion of external motivation is usually not direct,which is due to the students' awareness of English's practicality when the teacher creates relatied situations,lead the students to solve practical problems with English knowledge in the process of conducting situational teaching method.While the improvement of achievement situation is also indirect.It's mainly because situational teaching method help the students master the correct English learning method,and improve their learning efficiency,so that they can find more self-efficacy and achievement sense in the process of studying English.(2)The students' English scores can be increased by the situational teaching method.(3)The students hold positive attitudes towards situational teaching method.It is specific in the promotion of learning interest,the improvement of learning method,the enhancement of achievement motivation and self-efficacy,and the progress of motivation intensity and willpower.Based on the experimental findings and discussions of the experimental results,pedagogical implications are obtained: situational teaching method can improve the students' learning motivations by enhancing their concentration and upward mobility,finally improve the students' learning abilities.In the end,the author puts forward some suggestions for the further teaching and study according to the problems appeared in this study.
