| At present, both the teachers and the students spend a lot of time on English learning, but the results are not satisfying because the efficiency of English learning is low. The students can memorize a lot of words and grammar rules, but they can’t express themselves, especially for the secondary vocational schools. Many teachers there are still using the traditional English teaching method which pays much more attention to the knowledge of the English language instead of language use. The key reason is that the teachers neglect the situational contexts which help the students understand the language and use it.After Chinese educational system reform, the Situational Teaching Method was introduced to China. Till now it has got great achievements in the English teaching. This thesis tries to explore the effect of situational teaching method in secondary vocational school. The research aims to solve the following questions:(1) Can the situational teaching method improve the students’ English achievement?(2) Can the situational teaching method affect students’ learning attitude and promote their interests and motivations? Aiming to answer the above questions, 109 students of Grade one in the Supplies School of Guizhou Province are selected as research subjects. Questionnaires, English tests and interviews are adopted in this research. After the experiment of 4 months, the author uses SPASS 18.0 software to analyze the data. The result shows that the situational teaching method in English teaching is popular. Situational teaching method can create a vivid learning situation and context that can fully promote the students’ learning interests and motivation. At the same time, it can effectively improve the students’ English achievements and relationship between teacher and students and activate classroom atmosphere, but most can help to enhance students’ English skills. From the research results, we can see that STM can greatly help students to improve their English learning. |
