Based on the cultural schema, this report is to study the translation of culture-loaded words in historical text,so as to explore the guidance role of cultural schema theory to translate culture-loaded words. The original text,History of Serbia, has a rich history and is a typical historical text.It contains a large number of culture-loaded words, which is a major difficulty in the translation process. There are few studies on culture-loaded words, and the existing research is not systematic enough. This report tries to start with the cultural schema, and explore the translation strategies and translation methods of culture-loaded words.Cultural schema theory refers to the organizational model of the past cognition and practical experience of "culture" in the human brain. On the basis of Gu Jiazu's classification of cultural structure, this report divides cultural patterns into two categories: overt cultural schema and covert cultural schema. The culture-loaded words in this report have both overt and covert cultural schema.Based on whether cultural schemata of culture-loaded word in English are correspondingly expressed in Chinese, this report puts forward four modes of the cultural schemata between English and Chinese: cultural schema correspondence, cultural schema similarity, cultural schema vacancy and cultural schema conflict. This report finds that literal translation and free translation can apply to the cultural schema correspondence and similarity. When it comes to cultural schema vacancy and cultural schema conflict, free translation and transliteration go first by which the translator can help Chinese reader establish and reshape new cultural schemata. This report shows that under the guidance of cultural schema translator can achieve maximum transformation of information and culture between English and Chinese.
