The development of globalization has made cultural exchange activities in various countries more and more frequent. As an important medium of cultural communication, books play a significant role in the process of cultural exchange and dissemination of knowledge.Books about social communication are now attracting more general audience. The translation of such books is getting more and more attention. The dissertation is a translation practice report, which takes the second chapter of Finesse-Superior Social Skills as the translation source text to discuss the translation skills of informative texts. The source text introduces the skills of effective communication. The purpose of this practice is to translate these skills accurately to Chinese readers and help them effectively improve their social skills. As English and Chinese are quite different languages, and there are great differences in their reading and cultural acceptance abilities, great challenges are faced in the process of translation such as proper expressions of long compound sentences and scientific researches in the source text. The Skopos Theory and its skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule are chosen as the guiding theory and proper translation methods and skills are used through reading the source text again and again. In order to make the target text acceptable and improve the quality of translation, translation methods like literal translation and free translation and translation skills such as addition, omission, repetition and conversion are adopted in the process of translation. The report proves that the three rules of Skopos Theory can be used to guide the translation of informative texts and summarizes translation methods and skills. When choosing translation methods and skills,it should be purpose-oriented and based on the three rules of Skopos Theory. It is hoped that this report can make contribution to translation studies of such texts in the future.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 0...
