Since the implementation of its reform and opening-up policy, China has been very active in the participation of international communication and cooperation. The importance of the translation of informative texts has become more and more obvious. This report, guided by Skopos Theory, discusses the translation of informative texts from English to Chinese. The material selected for translation is the first five chapters of Thinking Skills. The main translation strategies used are as follows: Rewriting the source text to facilitate target readers' understanding; adding or omitting words to make the translation more fluent or concise; converting words and voice to make the translation in accordance with the expressing convention of the target culture; using idioms appropriately to increase the effect of communication and arouse the interest of the target readers. The purpose of the translation of informative texts is to convey the informative function of the original text. So in translating such texts, the translator should pay attention to the content and the cultural background of the target reader instead of the form of the source text. Different strategies should be used flexibly to transfer the message of the original text to the target reader with good communicative effect.
