Translation Strategies In Informative Text Translation From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Informative text plays a vital role in conveying information to people in our daily lives.Informative text attaches heavy importance to the creditability and readability of information in the text,and sometimes there are words which are related to the background information in informative text.In this way,translators are often confronted with difficulties in understanding and translating informative text.This thesis begins with an introduction to the features of informative texts,and explains the reasons why The Soul of Cinema:An Appreciation of Film Music can be regarded as an informative text.Then the author makes instructions on the development of Skopos theory and the principles of Skopos theory.There are three rules of Skopos theory,which are skopos,coherence and fidelity.Skopos theory argues that translation is an action that has a purpose;the translator should make decisions in translating by underlying the purpose of the translation.And then the author carries out an analysis,demonstrating the feasibility of translating informative texts from the perspective of Skopos theory.Then the author discusses the choice of translating strategies in translating the text from the aspects of words,sentences and paragraph.By analyzing the examples taken from the source text,the author tries to show how to choose translating strategies when the translator is confronted with different situations.In this way,this thesis shows how the three principles of Skopos theory are exploited in the translation of Chapter 9 of The Soul of Cinema:An Appreciation of Film,and clarifies the value of Skopos theory in guiding the translation of informative texts.
