As one of the four major parts of teaching,textbooks are attached with great importance.Accordingly,the study of textbook has also grew into an essential part of Chinese teaching.Sheng Yan(1990)believed that a complete series of textbooks should be composed of four parts: various textbooks,extracurricular reading materials,teaching reference and audio-visual software.With all these components included,a Chinese teaching program then can be considered as qualified.Therefore,each of the four components affects the quality of Chinese teaching However,most of the existing studies of Chinese textbooks focus on Student's Book,while few of pay attention to the corresponding Teacher's Book.This study,four sets of Teacher's Books of elementary comprehensive Chinese course were taken as the research objectives.Through a quantitative comparative analysis of the sections of grammar teaching and classroom activity design in the four selected Teacher's Books,the study found that all of them have problems in grammar teaching and classroom activity design.From the point of view of grammar teaching,Experience Chinese has compiled complete teaching steps for each grammar point inside,and it has concise and clear teaching steps,so it has strong practicability.New Practical Chinese Reader only demonstrates steps of grammar teaching and most of teaching steps have been omitted,so it attaches too much importance to the grammar.Hanyu Jiaocheng and Developing Chinese are too "stylized" in the guidance methods of grammar teaching,the teaching steps are not clear,and the language is relatively abstract,so the guidance is inadequate.From the perspective of classroom activities,because New Practical Chinese Reader does not compile the relevant content of classroom activities and the classroom activities in Hanyu Jiaocheng are mainly topic-based dialogues,thisstudy only chose the classroom activities in Experience Chinese and Developing Chinese as comparative objects.Both of them have deficiencies in the integrity of classroom activities.They are centered on grammar,and less involved in phonetics and Chinese characters class activities.Experience Chinese is more diverse than Developing Chinese in terms of the types of classroom activities and the types of group members.From these two aspects,Experience Chinese is more attractive to studentsBased on the research findings above and the results and the questionnaires,the present study puts forward four suggestions for the compilation of grammar teaching in teachers' guides:(1)to establish a correct grammar teaching concept;(2)to refine and enrich the content of grammar teaching guidance,and to simplify the teaching language;(3)to provide a variety of teaching methods and to improve grammar teaching procedures;(4)to enhance the practicability of grammar teaching guidance and to reduce empty generalization guidance.In order to compile the design of classroom activities,four suggestions are put forward:(1)to face up to the importance of classroom activities and to compile relevant contents of classroom activities;(2)to follow the design principles of classroom activities and to increase the number and types of classroom activities;(3)to standardize the design of classroom activities and to improve the integrity of classroom activities design;(4)to rationally adjust the number of classroom activities and to grasp the classroom from multiple perspectives activity content.
