This report is based on the E-C translation project that the author had undertaken for qian10.net from November 2015 to November 2016.This website is a We Media agent that releases popular science translations. The aim of qian10.net is to discover the fun of common things in the fields of technology, medicine, society, history,to tell people something they have never seen before and to dispel rumors.Popular science article bears the feature of scientificity, popularization, concision and interestingness.By summarizing the stylistic features of the translation materials, the author found that Peter Newmark's Semantic and Communicative Translation Theory is supportive for her translation work.Guided by Semantic and Communicative Translation Theory, the author had finished her translation task. However,Semantic and Communicative Translation Theory only offers guidelines instead of a specific translation method to the author. Therefore, the author discusses some translation methods in this report by citing examples.Examples in this report will explain how the translator employs semantic and communicative approaches to maintain stylistic features in title translation, body translation including word translation and sentence translation, and format modification. When translated articles are published in qian10.net,some readers leave their comments and suggestions.By checking readers' comments, the author can find her mistakes and deficiencies, and grasp the key points.Different from other projects, the translations of this project are published by We Media platforms. In addition, the stylistic feature of the Source Text is less formal but more popular than other scientific writings. To retain these characteristics in her translations, the author has put forward some principles in this report, looking forward to providing empirical methods of English to Chinese translation of popular science articles. This report is divided into six chapters.Chapter One introduces the detailed description of this translation project,as well as the significance of this project. In addition,it elaborates the significance of this report.Chapter Two emphasizes on presenting the translation process, which includes preparation, translation, and proofreading and trans-editing.In Chapter Three, the author makes an elaboration of the stylistic features of translation materials. Moreover, the author puts forward the theoretical framework of the report.Directed by this guiding theory, the translator tries her best to maintain the stylistic features in translation works.Chapter Four presents the case analysis guided by Peter Newmark's Semantic Translation(ST)and Communicative Translation(CT)theory.Chapter Five is the readers' comments, which inspired the translator via the readers' perspective.Chapter Six is a conclusion part.It contains the major findings in this translation project.Furthermore, some limitations are pointed out in this part.
