Report On Translation Of Yellow Leaves Falling In The Autumn Wind (Excerpts) Based On Communicative Translation

Folk literature is an important genre in the creation of modern Chinese literature,mainly focuses on the description of rural life and is based on rural areas with distinct regional characteristics and unique regional styles.Folk language is the most interesting and historical epitome of rural culture.The difficulty in the translation of folk literature works lies in how to accurately express the unique language so as to facilitate readers’ comprehension and retain the folk characteristics.The communicative translation put forward by Peter Newmark,is of great enlightenment to solve this problem.It is applicable to informative and vocative texts,focusing on the expressive effect in the translated text,and emphasizing target language reader’s linguistic level.Yellow Leaves Falling in the Autumn Wind can be categorized as the informative and vocative text,emphasizing the transmission of information and the expression of emotional value.This report mainly covers three perspectives,including lexical translation,idiom translation and dialogue translation.The techniques adopted in lexical translation include paraphrase,literal translation with explanation and free translation,which can make the dialectal words and folklore words in folk literary accurately delivered,while retaining the folk characteristics of the source language.In addition,some folklore words with certain cultural connotations can achieve the effect of information compensation with the help of compensatory translation;Proverbs and common sayings contained in idioms are abundant in this work,the application of literal translation with explanation,free translation and substitution can make the deep meaning of source language manifested,and avoid reading obstacles due to cultural differences;In the translation of dialogue,it mainly includes three techniques,the addition of words can make the dialogue smoother and more concrete,the conversion of sentence patterns can highlight the inner activities and make the information accurately transmitted,and the expansion of translation can better arouse resonance of readers.This report can provide some enlightening for the preservation of folk characteristicsin the translation of folk literature works,promoting Chinese folk culture to the world and making contribution for Chinese culture to “ go out ”.
