Ehu is a traditional Chinese instrument and since its birth of more than one thousand years ago,it has exerted a profound influence on the history of traditional Chinese music.rhu used to be played to accompany other instruments in early years,but gradually it made its way into the leading position in Chinese orchestras.As music is making its advances,rhu also exhibits a versatility of showcasing both traditional and modern styles.Today rhu repertoire proliferates with the efforts of rhu composers who never cease their efforts in exploring innovative performing skills.Bochan Li,an outstanding contemporary rhu composer,has created an impressive collection of typical rhu music,with the best work being the Light along the Silk Road.This paper,on the basis of the author's stage performances of and reflections on the masterpiece,analyzes the structure,harmony framework,genre characteristics,melody techniques and performance skills in the Light along the Silk Road,with the aim to show how the work turns out to be a perfect combination of Chinese and western composing forms and techniques.In the end,some thoughts on the fundamental principles of modern rhu music are shared in the hope of promoting future research or performance. |
