Studies On The Military Activities Of The Alasha-hoshud Banner Soldiers During The Uprising Of The Hui People In The 1860s And 1870s

During the Tongzhi period(1862-1873),the uprising of the hui people in Shaanxi and Gansu was an anti-Qing movement in the northwest of the Qing dynasty.In the previous research,there is no monograph on the Mongolian banner soldiers?participation in the battle to pacify the hui people in Shaanxi and Gansu.Therefore,it is of great academic significance to make an empirical study of Alasha-Hoshud banner?s military activities in pacifying the hui people in Shaanxi and Gansu by using the archives and historical materials,to expand the research field of modern Chinese history and to clarify the role of Mongolian banner in consolidating the northwest frontier area in the Qing dynasty.This paper makes use of the Mongolian archives and historical materials in the Tongzhi period of Alasha-Hoshud banner and EzeneTorguud banner,and makes a special study and a systematic description of the military activities of the banner soldiers of these two Mongolian banners who were ordered to take part in the rebellion against the hui people in Shaanxi and Gansu.The thesis consists of prologue,three chapters and references.First,in the preface,the author briefly introduces the reasons,basic historical materials and innovative points of the topic.The first chapter summarizes the historical background of the Shaanxi and Gansu hui people uprising in the Tongzhi period and the first battle of the Mongolian banner soldiers in the pacified hui people uprising.The second chapter discusses the deployment of banner troops and requisition of goods and materials in Alasha-Hoshud banner during the period of pacifying the rising hui people.The third chapter discusses the influence of the pacifying war on the population,economy and religious culture of Mongolian banner.Finally,the bibliography and references of Mongolian archives and historical materials are given.
