E-C Translation Strategies Of Complicated Sentences In English For Common Science And Technology From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

Global communication in science and technology has been conducted more frequently than before.As a bridge,translation of English for Common Science and Technology(ECST)text plays a key role in such communication.Since ECST text has a large number of readers with wide range of disciplines involved,it put forward higher requirements on the translator accordingly.This report is based on an English-Chinese translation project of UNESCO Science Report 2030 undertaken by MTI center of the School of Foreign Languages in Beijing Institute of Technology.The author analyzes the translation strategies of complicated sentences in the light of Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory and the classification of text types.According to Peter Newmark's classification of text types,Science Report belongs to informative text.He believes that informative text is communicative translation oriented.In communicative translation,the translator centers on the target readers.It emphasizes that the translation must follow the linguistic and cultural customs of the target language to convey the original content.As there is a big difference between sentence structure of Chinese and English,in the translation of complicated English sentences,the translator should clarify the sentence structure and level of the original English sentences,and achieve the purpose of transferring communicative information by applying appropriate translation strategies to convey the original meaning of the source language.The report is composed of four parts: translation process description and stylistic feature analysis,guiding theory and definition and characteristics of complicated sentences,translation case studies and translation practice summary.Some translation strategies of complicated sentences in ECST are put forward from the perspective of communicative translation theory,aiming to provide some feasible and workable reference for English-Chinese translation of ECST text and promote the further study in this field.
