E-C Translation Of Complex Sentences In Science And Technology News Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

Nowadays, as the major carrier of scientific and technological achievements, news disseminates information all over the world by the ways of newspaper, radio, television and Internet. And another fact is that most of the news spreads in English. As a result,the E-C translation of science and technology news maintains a great significance. In the long term, however, there has always been two problems that inhibit the development of translation on science and technology news. Firstly, the domestic traditional translation theories are impotent to direct the translation on science and technology news. Secondly, the poor readability of the translations is the other problem.To improve the readability of the translations of science and technology news, this research proposal mainly laid its focus on the sentence structure and detailed expression of the complex sentences in science and technology news so that the original meaning of the news can be accurately comprehended. And in this way, the author tried to turn it into acceptable and authentic translations for Chinese readers with plain words and sentences under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory.In this paper, the research background, research target, research problems and research significance were firstly introduced and then the main situations of the task were described. According to the features of the complex sentences in science and technology news that a number of clauses and phrases are maintained, the analysis and adjustments on the syntactic structure were conducted. Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory from Peter Newmark, the translation methods of sequencing, reversing and splitting were adopted in the translation process with a view to make the translation more acceptable for Chinese readers. The specific procedures consist of several parts. The first step was to comprehend the main ideas of the sentences in source text, and then the author tried to analyze the main and subordinate structures as well as the relationship between those two. The next step was to translatethese clauses. Meanwhile, the author attempted to adjust and reintegrate the sequence of those translated clauses under the Communicative Translation Theory which helped the author alter the differences on expression habit and thinking mode between two languages. The further improvements and corrections were necessarily made after the whole translation process. The last part of this paper concluded the full paper and presented the results and deficiencies, and then put forward the direction and suggestions for future research.
