English reading is one of the most important contents in English teaching,the improvement of which promotes the whole English learning and teaching.For secondary vocational students,English plays an important role in both employment and further education.However,the traditional teaching mode of simple translation and explanation is used in the English reading teaching all the time,and the students are afraid of reading English and aren't interested in English.Therefore,in this study,the author attempts to introduce group cooperative learning mode into the teaching of English reading class in vocational schools,and to explore the effectiveness of group cooperation in improving students' interest in English reading,while improving their learning ability and expanding their knowledge.It is expected that English reading classes will be more efficient and more interesting with the application of group cooperative learning.In this study,the students of 4 classes in Zhongshan Advanced Technical School were selected as the study objects,and study of group cooperative learning has been applied and carried out for one year.This study was based on the theory of group cooperative learning and on the basis of relevant literature.In this study,the division of groups and study activity of group cooperative learning was designed according to the characteristics,the learning interest and learning ability of secondary vocational school students.The theory was combined with practice and applied to English reading class.Then through interviews,questionnaires and pre-test and post-test methods,the effects of group cooperative learning on secondary vocational students in reading class were analyzed.The purpose of this study was to overcome the drawbacks of the traditional English reading teaching model and to explore the feasibility of carrying out the cooperative group learning model in the secondary vocational English reading class.The study draws conclusions from the results of the study as followed:(1)The application of group cooperative learning in the English reading class of secondary vocational school has improved the students' learning autonomy and ability.The secondary vocational school students can improve their English learning interest and ability to a certain extent by actively working together in English reading class.Students have learned to make use of the surrounding resources to expand their knowledge and make continuous progress and achievements,therefore,their study effect has been maximized.(2)The application of group cooperative learning in secondary vocational English reading class has greatly improved the embarrassing situation of vocational school English teaching.The use of group cooperative learning method in secondary vocational English class not only enlivens class atmosphere,improves students' self-confidence,but also stimulates students' enthusiasm to participate in English teaching activities,and greatly increases students' interest in reading English.(3)The application of group cooperative learning in English reading class of secondary vocational school has strengthened communication,improved the relationship between teachers and students and between students and students,and has improved students' interpersonal communication ability and fostered competition consciousness.It not only has enhanced the team spirit of professional awareness and sense of responsibility,but also can help students to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills for work,so as to achieve a win-win situation in learning and employment.
