Parents play an extremely important role in the growth of children.Parenting styles inevitably have a significant impact on the formation and development of children's personality,cognition and social skills.At present,the cultivation of college students' social adaptabilities has become a critical aspect of higher education and a research hotspot of college students' adaptive development.An increasing number of researchers begin to pay attention to the influence that parental rearing styles exert on college students' social adaptabilities.This thesis aims to promote parents to form a scientific parenting style,help college students optimize their cognitive styles and provide strategies for them to improve their social adaptabilities.708 students from five universities are selected as the object of this study.Four types of questionnaires consisting of the simple questionnaire on parenting styles,the scale on cognitive styles of college students,the questionnaire on college students' social adaptabilities and demographic scale are employed to analyze respectively the features of rearing styles of parents and the cognitive styles and social adaptabilities of college students and further probe into the relationship among these three factors.The conclusions can be drawn as follows:(1)On the whole,there is no obvious difference in the parenting styles of college students and no extreme situations are detected.The development of college students' cognitive styles is generally balanced and their social adaptabilities are of medium level.(2)For students from different grades,rearing styles of their parents are quite different in the two dimensions of rejection and emotional warmth.(3)College students of different genders and grades show great differences in such cognitive styles as inward-outward thinking and verbalizer-imager dimension.(4)College students of different genders and grades show significant differences in social adaptabilities.(5)Cognitive styles of college students play a role of mediator between parenting styles and their social adaptabilities.(6)The dimension of inward-outward thinking in the cognitive style plays a role of(7)mediator in the prediction on college students' social adaptabilities made by three dimensions of rejection,emotional warmth and over-protection in parenting styles.(8)The dimension of intuition-analysis in the cognitive style plays a mediating role in the prediction on college students' social adaptabilities made by the dimension of rejection in parenting styles while the dimension of intuition-analysis in the cognitive style doesn't play the same role in the prediction on college students' social adaptabilities made by the two dimensions of emotional warmth and over-protection in parenting styles.(9)The dimension of verbalizer-imager in the cognitive style doesn't play a mediating role in the prediction on college students' social adaptabilities made by three dimensions of rejection,emotional warmth and over-protection in parenting styles.
