On The Translation Of Classic Chinese Quotations In Political Texts From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

As China is getting closer to the world center stage,its voice is being heard through the media,especially through the coverage of speeches delivered by the head of government and high-ranking officials.A well-translated political text can convey China’s vision and ideas and contribute to the building of a positive national image.Research delving into these political texts has shown that Chinese classics are frequently quoted to illustrate governing concepts.Given the cultural differences between East and West,it is always thorny to translate classic Chinese quotations in political texts.To better address the above-mentioned challenge,this thesis attempts to make a case study of the translation of classic Chinese quotations in the work Xi Jinping: The Governance of China from the perspective of the three-dimensional transformations principle of eco-translatology.By analyzing examples from the book,this thesis reveals the factors that translators going to take into consideration and how they balance the different dimensional transformations to achieve the harmony of the translational eco-environment.It also assesses whether the translations conform to the rules of eco-translatology.The analysis sheds some light on the translation of classic Chinese quotations in political texts and helps translators to better employ eco-translatology,especially the principle of three-dimensional transformations to their future work regarding political texts translation.This thesis draws the following conclusions: first,there are overlaps among the three dimensions.An example sometimes can be analyzed from multiple dimensions.And A qualified translator should find a way to balance the constraints of the three dimensions.Second,conveying political ideas is the priority in the translation of political texts.In other words,the translator has to weigh the pros and cons and even omit cultural vocabulary in some cases to achieve communicative function and meet grammatical requirements.Third,adding annotations and extracting the category word or core-meaning word can help to convey cultural messages in the translation of political texts.
