A Study Of The Strategies Of Consecutive Interpretation From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

Interpretation is the bridge of communication among countries, consecutive interpretation as a method of interpretation to exchange information is generally employed at international conferences. At present, with the deepening of globalization, consecutive interpretation is widely used at international conferences.This thesis is an analysis of the consecutive interpretation of the Press Conference of CPPCC and NPC in 2016 as a text research from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory to analyze the interpreting strategies adopted by the interpreter. The thesis first describes the features of the text and then studies the difficulties in the consecutive interpretation including Chinese characteristics, vague language and long sentences. Based on the Interpretive Theory, the thesis explains the usage of literal translation, free translation and vocabulary synthesis as the interpreting strategies to deal with Chinese characteristics. The interpreting strategies of vague language are accurate translation of vague language, fuzzy translation of fuzziness and omission. For the interpreting of long sentences, the interpreting strategies are syntactic translation, word order adjustment, addition, omission and comprehensive translation.All in all, by analyzing the consecutive interpretation of the Press Conference of CPPCC and NPC in 2016, this thesis is intended to make an exploration of the application of the Interpretive Theory in the consecutive interpretation to research the interpreting strategies.
