Going Through The Fantasy

Han Bangqing is one of the most important novelists in the late Qing Dynasty.His The Sing-song Girls of Shanghai is the significant work of Xia Xie novel.This dissertation starts with Slavoj Zizek's theory of "ideological fantasy",through the concepts of "the big other","gaze","symptom","surplus-enjoyment","death drive",to make a detailed analysis on the fantasy of erotica in Shanghai concession a hundred years ago.And exploring the potential of "Going through the fantasy" in the text.The thesis consists of three parts:introduction,text and conclusion,and the text includes three chapters.The first chapter is the urban erotica and ideological fantasy.The first section outlines the erotic city in the historical narration,the second section discusses the erotic imagination revealed in the leisure tabloids,and the third section reveals the erotic imagination in the comparison of the novel text and historical facts.Shanghai concession is a mixed place of Chinese and foreign countries.Its ideological order is mixed and expressed by law,morality and custom.Through the way of being questioned by the big other,the subjects of citizens experience the law as truth,so as to internalize it in their actions.They know that they follow the fantasy of woman and song,but they are calm about it.The second chapter is the "surplus-enjoyment" of urban erotia.The so-called"surplus-enjoyment" refers to the psychological drive that drives the alienated subject back to the original reality within the fantasy-framework.Since they follow the relationship,which is manifested as enjoyment in suffering from oppression and exploitation.The first section starts with opium cigarettes with colonial characteristics,discusses Zhang Xiaocun,Zhao Guilin,Shen Xiaohong,Wen Junyu and others who like smoking,and analyzes how such abnormal enjoyments derive and operate under the rule of the colonists.The second section analyzes the collusion of money and desire in the Shanghai concession.The mirrors and lamps in the boudoirs of courtesans represent the commodity economic logic of capitalism.They are fragile but essential.They can show civilization,but they always fall into the male power trap of gracious guests' "Breaking the room ".Therefore,the mirror and the lamp manifest as double oppression,and the courtesans'expectation of "colored glass world",then turn into the surplus-enjoyment under oppression.The third section discusses the Obsession clinging to "phallogocentrist" through their dreams.It is only in dreams that one is truly aware of the fantasy-framework,which supports the fictionality of reality and reinforces fantasy' s deadly sting.The third chapter is "going through the fantasy" of urban erotia.If"surplus-enjoyment" is the result of subjecting to symbolic order,then "going through the fantasy" is the cognition of "overflowing symptom" in the real world,and to explore the reaction of symptom to novel system and its mixed ideological system.The first section explores the stitching and connection between the "Conclusion" of the novel and the "Narration" of the text.Because the part of "conclusion" is drawn up by classical Chinese,its ideology is still a more rigorous traditional discourse,which is the penetration of the woman and song in the novel and westernyard.The second section is based on the potential text in the novel,which is represented by Kunqu Opera.Although to some extent,they are consistent with the psychological process of the characters,and pave the way for the plot,as a kind of "retrospective prediction",they subvert the smoothness of the story framework of the novel.The third section introduces the love and death of Li Shufang and others in the novel.Under the "death drive",Li Shufang's behavior of dying for love constitutes the overflow in the narrative of the novel,which eliminates the integrity and unity of the fantasy of urban erotica in Shanghai.Therefore,no matter in Shanghai concession,or in the novel text,urban erotica relys on commodity economy,limited by the feudal patriarchy and colonial authority,it is illusory.Under the influence of ideology,people in Shanghai concession are obsessed with the pursuit of money and erotica,and fall into the dilemma of desire Consequently,we need to identify with the symptoms,identify with the overflow of the text system and urban behavior,and provide the possibility to going through "the fantasy of erotica".
