A Report On The Translation Of The Excerpts From A Prisoner Named Yanshi

A Prisoner Named Yanshi,written by Yan Gelin,embraces rich connotations and a deep loving for the mankind.This book intertwines the fate of Lu Yanshi,an intellectual,with political vicissitudes,telling a soul-stirring love story,describing the social landscape of China in the 20 th century,and making its share of contribution in savoring Chinese culture.The source text of this report is based on an over 10000-word translation of Introduction,Chapter Thirty-one and Chapter Thirty-two from it.Ecotranslatology,a cross-discipline study,provides theoretical support for the report.It is originally brought up by Hu Gengshen,a Chinese scholar,and takes roots in the ecological wisdom of the east,expanding research target from the translation context to the translation eco-environment and extending the relevance chain from language itself to the whole human society.The combination of eco-translatology theory and Chinese literature translation together can turn into a strong thrust in the cause of Chinese culture going-out.In this C-E translation report,the author has combined translation practice with language features of A Prisoner Named Yanshi,probed translation difficulties in the light of eco-translatology and summarized translation methods based on three-dimension transformation theory,namely the linguistic dimension,the cultural dimension and the communicative dimension,such as omission and division and combination in the linguistic dimension,transliteration plus annotation and free translation in the cultural dimension,as well as adaptation and domestication in the communicative dimension.The research shows that the translation eco-environment is composed of diversified interconnected dimensions.Three-dimension transformation is labelled as three aspects of the whole translation process.In this narrative,translators should give full plays to the initiative ability in applying selective adaption methods in multiple dimensions,in a way to maintain,coordinate and balance the eco-environment of the source language.
