This translation report is based on Research Methodologies in Translation Studies completed by Gabriela Saldanha and Sharon O‘Brien and published by Routledge in 2014.The book boosts a critical approach to academic research with offering not only the methods or techniques of studying translation but also insights into how to effectively solve new questions emerged in translation researches.It aims to provide methods for translation researches from a theoretical point of view,involving research reports,the establishment of corpora,and analysis on the related methods of translation,which can be used to understand the relevant methodologies of translation studies and to guide specific translation practice.The source text for this translation practice is excerpted from the third chapter(totaling 14,953 words)of the book,which introduces relevant product-oriented research methods.The author probes into some common translation problems that are encountered in the process of translation,such as long sentences,terms and citations in the academic texts,and summarizes the methods for solving these problems under the guidance of Skopos theory.The author believes that subject knowledge plays a vital role in the translation of academic texts,and that the translation of long sentences should be carried out on levels of clause,phrase and word on the basis of structural analysis.In addition,the author summarizes some specific translation techniques like class shift,amplification,omission,sentence reconstruction on the basis of this practice,hoping to provide some references for the translation of academic text.
