After sorting out the related core concepts from theories of cultural identity, intercultural communication, pragmatics and cross-cultural psychology, this paper extracts the concepts of the second cultural identity and the levels of Four SHAREDs,which consist of the shared text, shared meaning, shared principle and shared empathy.Based on the above concepts, this paper studies how to construct and realize the substitution mechanism and psychological mechanism of the second cultural identity in cross-language communication,to obtain smooth and successful language communication. The second cultural identity is developed based on the first cultural identity in the process of cross-lingual communication. It is the concrete realization of the cultural status of a communicator in Four SHAREDs in the dynamic process of cross-language communication.A dynamic second cultural identity is formed by the synergy effect of the substitution mechanism and the psychological mechanism. The research findings indicate that the substitution mechanism of the second cultural identity can be divided into four levels: shared text, shared meaning, shared principle and shared empathy.First level, shared text: to use the same language. The second level, shared meaning: to have the same meaning, including its connotative and denotative meaning. The third level, shared principle: cross-language communicators follow concordant values and principles, such as behavioral principles. The fourth level, shared empathy: cross-language communicators resonate with each other in emotion. The study also shows that: 1)the overlapping rate of the Four SHAREDs is proportional to the success rate of cross-language communication. The higher the overlapping rate of the Four SHAREDs,the more clearly and identifiable of the second cultural identity, and the more successful of the cross-language communication activities.2)This psychological mechanism is also a process of subjective initiative. The individual accepts the duality of his identity and eliminates his identity anxiety.Step 1,to seek the shared ground;Step 2,to keep the difference;Step 3,to build a comfortable psychological zone of identity.
