A Simulated C-E Consecutive Interpreting Task Report On Friends Of Time Of 2016 New Year's Eve Speech:Tactics Of Supplementing Extra-Linguistic Knowledge

The whole program consists of consecutive interpreting task of Friends of Time of 2016 New Year's Eve Speech and a report on the difficulties and corresponding tactics in the interpreting process.The utterance of this project concerns current social and economic events and phenomena in China,which is conversational and formal,too.Considering the extralinguistic knowledge asymmetry between the speaker and the targeted audiences,the main difficulties are collected into three categories: quickly complementing the audience's extralinguistic knowledge under time pressure when asymmetry of social experience knowledge exists;dispelling understanding insufficiency and even misunderstanding when asymmetry of cultural knowledge exists;delivering the reference and the intention of the speaker fast and accurately when asymmetry of situational knowledge exists.This report adopts the Interpretive Theory as the guiding theory.According to the theory,language knowledge is important,but more importantly,the interpreter should apply cognitive complements as well,otherwise the language will just become a symbol and code that does not bear any meaning.The Interpretive Theory fully affirms that cognitive complements involve both the interpreter and the listener,embodying the source language understanding and the understanding of the target language.Guided by the concept of cognitive complements of the Interpretive Theory,corresponding tactics are proposed.Firstly,adding information of social experience and expanding relevant information to complement social experience knowledge of the targeted audience.Secondly,aiming at the possible obstacles to the targeted audience's understanding caused by the asymmetry of cultural knowledge,substituting corresponding cultural expressions and informative paraphrasing are adopted.Thirdly,to make the reference and intention clear,expounding semantic meaning and explicating reference or intention are helpful.Combined with the practical examples in the interpreting task,tactics for complementing audience's extra-linguistic knowledge are proposed during consecutive interpreting in order to convey the meaning clearly and accurately.It is hopeful to offer some reference and advice on this field.
