Coherence is an indispensable element for interpreting. It decides whether or not the audience could understand the speech clearly. However, during the exercises and real practices, the author finds her delivery not that coherent.Improvement is needed. Moreover, since Chinese is not as logical as English, the difficulties for achieving coherence mainly exist in Chinese to English interpreting. This thesis is a practice report of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Forum, and Chinese to English consecutive interpreting of the Forum is the case for study. The author analyzes the interpreting under the guidance of the concepts of cohesion and coherence proposed by Halliday and Hasan and Hu Zhuanglin and Nida's functional equivalence theory. An analysis is carried out on the basis of two major coherence perspectives, namely explicit coherence and implicit coherence.Explicit coherence includes four approaches – reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction, and implicit coherence mainly refers to linguistic context and situational context in this thesis. The functional equivalence theory serves as an evaluation standard for the analysis. After analyzing 24 specific examples, the author gets the conclusion that when dealing with most situations in Chinese to English interpreting, the four cohesion devices could be adopted, and when using conjunction,it is effective to use various conjunctions rather than always using the same one. Moreover, when interpreting,it is useful to consider the linguistic context and situational context and then omit some unnecessary words, phrases,or even sentences,to reduce redundancy.
