Listening, speaking, reading and writing are four basic skills in English learning. At present, the cultivation of primary school students’ English reading ability and the improvement of reading performance have been paid more and more attention.Reading is also the main input mode of primary school students in the process of learning English. But at the same time, reading is also a weak aspect of students’ English learning. The students’ reading techniques are insufficient and their vocabulary size is not big enough.Meanwhile, their horizon is not wide. These disadvantages become obstacles in the process of students’ English reading. In this case,it is necessary to transfer the teaching mode of English reading and increase the training of English reading techniques.Micro lecture was first proposed by professors from the University of North Iowa in the United States. It advocates the idea of explaining knowledge through multiple media so that students can benefit from it.Compared with the traditional reading teaching mode, micro lecture,as a new teaching resource and teaching method, can combine text, animation, sound, audio and video together. In this way, students’ reading interest can be effectively attracted. At the same time, the viewing of micro lecture is not limited by the class time,so it can meet the personalized reading teaching to the students to the maximum extent. Therefore, this thesis mainly discusses the teaching mode of English reading based on micro lecture in order to find out the influence of micro lecture in primary school English reading teaching. This thesis mainly focuses on the following two research questions:1.What are the effects on the students’ English reading ability after the application of English reading teaching mode based on micro lecture in primary school?2.What are the influences on the students’ interest in English reading after the application of English reading teaching mode based on micro lecture in primary school?80 students from two classes of a primary school in the capital city of a province in the northeast of China in Grade 6 are chosen to be the research objectives.Through pre-questionnaire,post-questionnaire,pre-test,post-test and interview, the above questions are studied respectively.First of all,a pre-questionnaire survey was conducted among the students of the two classes to find out the current situation and problems of English reading teaching. As for the pre-test,the results show that there is no significant difference between the two classes before the application of micro lecture reading teaching. The two classes were divided into experimental class(EC)and control class(CC).The experimental class was taught with the mode based on micro lecture, the control class was taught by the traditional English reading teaching mode. One semester later, after the application of the micro lecture reading teaching mode in EC,the two classes were tested again. The results of the two tests are analyzed by SPSS13.0 software and show that the students’ English reading performance has improved. Then a post-questionnaire was put forward in EC to check whether the students’ problems in English reading have been solved. The results show that most of the students approve of the reading teaching mode based on micro lecture and this mode do solve their problems in reading. In this way, students would like to read the English texts actively. Finally, six students were randomly selected from the experimental class for interview. The results of the interview show that students’ interest in reading has also improved significantly. At the same time, students’ confidence in English reading learning has also improved significantly.Based on the above, this paper puts forward some suggestions for the primary school English reading teaching mode.
