With the spread of mass media,idols are becoming more and more popular with teenagers,and they have a certain impact on students' self-shape.In study 1,347 high school students in Tianjin were selected to investigate their idolatry status by questionnaire.It was found that there was no significant gender difference in idolatry types,but the grade differences in idolatry types were significant.There was no significant difference between rational idolatry and irrational idolatry in grade one and grade three of senior school.Rational idolatry in grade two was significantly more than irrational idolatry.Then,by using different research paradigms in study 2 and study 3,we explore the reference effect of idolatry.The mixed design of 2(idolatry types: rational idolatry,irrational idolatry)×4(reference conditions: self-reference,mother-reference,idol-reference,semantic reference)was used in each experiment.The idolatry type is the subjects variable,and the referece condition is subjects internal variable.Study 2 used the classical paradigm of self-reference effect to explore the effect of idolatry type on the idol-reference effect of high school students under the deep processing.It was found that the main effect of idolatry types was not significant,the main effect of reference conditions was significant,and the interaction between idolatry types and reference conditions was significant.The self-reference performance of rational idolatry was significantly better than other reference conditions.And there was no significant difference between idol-reference and self-reference of irrational idolatry,both of them are significantly better than mother-reference and semantic-reference.Study 3 used the incidental coding paradigm to explore the effect of idolatry types on the idol-reference effect of high school students under shallow processing.It was found that the main effect of idolatry types was not significant,the main effect of reference conditions was significant,and the interaction between idolatry types and reference conditions was significant.There was no significant difference between the self-reference and mother-reference of rational idolatry,but they were significantly better than idol-reference and semantic-reference.The mother-reference performance of irrational idolatry was significantly better than other reference conditions.Combining the three studies,the conclustions are as follow:(1)In general,there are more rational idolaters than irrational idolaters in high school students,and there are significant differences in grades.(2)In the classical paradigm of self-reference effect,irrational idolaters have idol-reference effect and self-reference effect;rational idolaters only have self-reference effect,but no idolreference effect.(3)In the incidental coding paradigm,rational idolaters have idol-reference effect,self-reference effect,and mother-reference effect.Irrational idolaters are affected by their own characteristics,and there is no idolatry-reference effect and self-reference effect.(4)Experimental studies have proved that R response is the best indicator to verify the self-related reference effect,and the self structure of high school students includes idol component.
