Edouard Vuilard(1868-1940)is one of the most representative painter of Nabi school which is the most active art group in France at the end of the 19 th century.His paintings have distinct characteristics,such as obvious symbolism and the tendency of Oriental aesthetic.From the perspective of oriental aesthetics,this paper attempts to expound the Oriental aesthetic tendency of Vuilard's paingtings in subject matter and form.In the paper,the Chinese art elements and Japanese Ukiyoe art elements which are contained in 19 th century French paintings are sorted out firstly,and then the different influence of them on 19 th century French paintings are discussed.Finally,through the analysis of his work,this paper expounds the Oriental aesthetic tendency contained in the subject matter and form of Vuilard,and the influence of comtemporary painters on his aesthetic tendency.After ananlyzing some pictures of Vuilard,this paper discuss the internal form law contained in his works.Contact with his life experience to find the underlying information of Vuilard's picture expression language;Deeply dig into the Oriental aesthetic elements and expression styles in Vuilard's works and consider the concrete expression of the similarities and mutual influences between eastern and western arts.Though analyzing Vuilard's paingitng art from the pespective oforiental aesthetics,it is helpful to improve my cognition of color and picture expression language,and deepen my understanding of Vuilard and nabi art works.
