The practice report is based on the second chapter of Early Language Development which is edited by Angela D.Friederici and Guillaume Thierry. This is an interdisciplinary academic text covering fields of linguistics, psychology, brain neuroscience, etc. The language of the text is professional, formal and objective. And there are many professional nouns, long and complex sentences in source text. Therefore, before the translation, the translator did a lot of preparatory work, including preparing a variety of translation tools, searching volumes of literature and reference materials, analyzing the source text carefully and so on.Finally, the translator completed the translation under the guidance of Hans J.Vermeer's Skopos theory. This translation practice report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is the task description. In this chapter, the author introduces the background of the task, describes the significance of the translation project, and analyzes the characteristics of the source text. The second chapter is translation process, including pre-translation: reading the original text carefully, searching relevant materials to supplement background knowledge;preparation of translation tools, preparation of translation theory – Skopos theory, and post-translation.The third chapter is case analysis.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the author addresses the problems encountered in the process of translation from the lexical level and syntactic level.During this process, the translator used some translation skills, such as free translation, additive translation, omission translation and back-translation.In the last chapter, the author summarizes the translation experience and limitations in the translation process. The author also hopes that more translators can attach importance to the translation of academic texts,so as to promote international academic exchanges.
