An E-C Translation Report Of International Encyclopedia Of Education(Excerpt) Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

This paper is a translation report of an English-Chinese translation.The translation material is excerpted from the Encyclopedia of International Education(Third Edition)(Volume III)and the author is responsible for the translation of three academic papers of this book.Technical terms and long and complex sentences are the difficult points in this translation.The translation report is conducted under the guidance of Vermeer's skopos theory.The author analyzes the source text and the target text at the level of word and sentence based on the three rules separately.According to the skopos rule,the skopos theory requires the target text should reproduce the content of source text exactly and fluently.The author searches relevant material online and also uses computer aided translation tools to unify technical terms to ensure that the target text is faithful to source text.According to the coherence rule,the skopos theory emphasizes the readability of the target text in the target language environment.The author mainly adopts domesticating strategy to translation to realize the intra-textual coherence of target text,thus to make the translation can be accepted by the target text readers.According to the fidelity rule,the skopos theory also stresses the inter-textual coherence between source text and target text.The author completes this translation report by applying translation methods such as paraphrase,imitation and variation translation in academic text translation,with translation techniques including addition,omission,division and combination.The author applies the coherence rule and fidelity rule in the translation practice,and summarizes the important role of skopos theory in the translation of academic text so as to achieve the communicative goal of academic text and improve the level and quality of academic text translation.
