With the development of Chinese economy, the international status and influence of China are constantly improving and the communication between China and other countries is getting increasingly close. Therefore, more and more countries are eager to know more about China.Political writings reflect the country's ideology and the government's political stance and major principles and policies.Political publicity translation undertakes the mission of being a link to connect China with other different countries. It is an important way for China to present herself on the world stage.Hence,it is vital to guarantee the quality of the political publicity translation as it determines China's international image.Under the framework of Verschueren's Adaptation Theory, the author takes the Chinese Government's White Paper--Ecological Progress on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as an example, exploring the forceful explanatory power of adaptation theory on translation from structural objects of adaptability and contextual correlates of adaptability.According to adaptation theory, the use of language is a process of continuous selection and adaptation.Structural adaptation is presented by adaptation at lexical, syntactical and discourse level.Communicative context adaptation is introduced in the aspects of adaptation to the physical world, mental world and social world. The adaptation theory has a strong explanatory power in the study of political publicity translation. To achieve the expected communicative goals, translators should make some adjustments to adapt to the linguistic context and communicative context in the process of translation.
