Nowadays, C-E translation for IP has become an important way for the world to understand China. In the process of cross-language and cross-cultural communication activity, the quality of IP translation will directly affect the consequence of the publicity activity. With the continuous expansion of China’s foreign exchange, the large amounts of IP materials pose great challenges to translators.Four-Character structure is a unique form of Chinese language, which is characterized with conciseness, neatness, harmony sound and profoundness. These qualities greatly contribute to its wide application yet increase its translation difficulty. Based on Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory, taking the four C-E comparison versions: Ancient Tea-Horse Road, The Great Wall, Summer Palace and Famous Pagodas in China as the studying materials, the thesis has conducted a comprehensive study. Through selection and comparative study of source and target phrases, a study on the F-C structure translation was presented from three aspects: adaptation, principles and methods. The major findings of this research are as follows:1. Two kinds of adaptations were made in F-C structure translation: adaptation to structural objects and cultural custom.2. In translation, the translator should not only follow the basic translation principles of faithfulness but also conform to the guiding principles of Adaptation Theory by adapting to communicative context and the acceptability level of the audiences.3. In the chosen materials, translators applied flexible translation methods, including literal translation, generalization, specification, addition, omission and annotation. And literal translation and generalization are the most applied ones.
