Previous researches have shown that there are two models for the influence of personality traits on marital quality. One is the "Individual Model",which emphasizes that individual personality has a direct impact on marital quality, and there is no mediating variable. The other is the "Mediation Model",which emphasizes that there is a mediating variable in the relationship between personality traits and marital quality.Later, more and more researchers integrated these two models to explore the impact of personality traits on marital quality. Some researchers believe that individual model and mediation model exist in different stages of the development of marriage. Some researchers believe that the individual model and the mediation model are not mutually exclusive. This research supports the view that the individual model and the mediation model are not mutually exclusive. It holds that both the individual model and the mediation model exist in the impact of personality traits on marital quality. This research explores the relationship among five big personality, love types and marital quality by using love types as mediating variables. In this study,622 married persons were studied by convenient sampling method, who were mainly distributed in 11 cities, such as Chongqing,Chengdu,Guiyang and Wuhan.622 questionnaires were distributed and collected, which contained 519 valid questionnaires,including123 males and 396 femalesand the validity rate was 83.4%.44 persons were under 30 years old,228 persons were between 30 and 39 years old,200 persons were between 40 and 49 years old,47 persons were above 50 years old.85 persons were under 5 years old,89 persons were between5 and 9 years old,239 persons were between 10 and 19 years old,106 persons were over 20 years old.In this study, mature and widely accepted scales were used as research tools.Personality traits were assessed by the Neo Five-Factor Inventory(NEO-FFI)compiled by Costa & McCrae(1992).The type of love is the Sternberg Triangular Love Scale-Chinese version(STLS-C)compiled by Gao Yan(2009),and the quality of marriage is the scale of Marriage Perception Index(MPS)compiled by Wang Yuzhong(2009).The study found that:(1)There were no significant differences in the scores of marital quality in marriage age, age, marital status, educational level, number of children and monthly income. There were significant differences in marital quality between genders and household registration categories. The marital qualit y of male subjects was significantly higher than that of female subjects, and that of urban subjects w as significantly higher than that of rural subjects.(2)Neuroticism has a significant negative impact on marital quality;extroversion and preciseness have a significant positive impact on marital quality;openness and agreeableness have no significant impact on marital quality.(3)Passion has a significant negative impact on marital quality.Commitment and intimacy have a significant positive impact on marital quality.(4)Neuroticism has a significant negative impact on passion, commitment and intimacy.Extroversion has a significant positive impact on passion, commitment and intimacy.Openness has no significant impact on passion and intimacy, but has a negative impact on commitment.Agreeableness has no significant impact on passion, commitment and intimacy.Preciseness has no significant impact on passion, but it has a positive impact on commitment and intimacy.(5)Five big personality have a positive predictive effect on marital quality, five big personality have a positive predictive effect on love types, and love types have a mediating effect between five big personality and marital quality.
