Under the dominant of western mainstream in personality psychology, the study of personality mainly focuses on personality factors reflecting cultural commonality.Self-report still is the mainstream way of personality assessment. But there are some researches show that extraversion and neuroticism have certain physiological evidence. Neurophysiological technology as a means of personality research has drawn the attention of the researches, but the research of personality traits reflected the emic are little. So, in the use of event-related potentials technology, this research tries to find some neural foundation of personality trait of interpersonal relatedness(IR).According to the lexical hypothesis, there may exist certain differences between individuals with different personality traits when they process the vocabulary reflecting personality traits. So, we assume there may exist certain differences between individuals that score highest and lowest in the interpersonal relatedness personality inventory(IR), when they process the vocabulary reflecting interpersonal relatedness personality traits. In addition, according to the ERP study of vocabulary, real word and pseudoword can produce N400 effect, personality and descriptive words can evoke the P200 and LPC. Particularly, we analysis this from three aspects:in the “vocabulary” level, individuals do a lexical decision task, they should determine which one is real word, which is pseudoword, and we assume that there are differences in N400 between this two groups; in the “personality word” level, individuals do a vocabulary discrimination task, they should determine which one is interpersonal word, which is descriptive word, and we assume that there are differences in P200 and LPC between this two groups; in the “interpersonal relatedness” level, individuals do a vocabulary discrimination task, they should determine which one is interpersonal word, which is personality word, and we assume that there are differences in P200 between this two groups. The subscale of the Cross Cultural(Chinese) Personality Assessment Inventory(CPAI)——the interpersonal relatedness personality inventory(REN、FAC、HAR、FAM) will be employed to serve as the basic instrument of personality assessment. We select the persons with highest and lowest scores as high(HIR) or low score group(LIR). Then, each group should do three vocabulary discrimination tasks. There arethree types of vocabulary, such as real word or pseudoword、interpersonal word or personality word and descriptive word. At the same time, we record the EEG and reaction time during the vocabulary discrimination tasks. The result shows:(1) in the “vocabulary” level, there exists difference between N400 for real word and N400 for pseudoword. But the difference between HIR and LIR is not significant;(2) in the “personality word” level, relative to interpersonal word, the P200 amplitude for descriptive word is greater, but there is no difference between HIR and LIR. In addition, relative to interpersonal word, the LPC amplitude for descriptive word is greater. In the time window of 600—700ms, the LPC amplitude for HIR is greater than LIR. But in the other time window, there exists no difference;(3) in the “interpersonal relatedness” level, the difference between the P200 for interpersonal word and P200 for personality word is not significant. The difference between HIR and LIR is also not significant; This results show that: there exists no difference between HIR and LIR in the aspects of “vocabulary” and “interpersonal relatedness”. But in the “personality word” level, there exists a certain differences between this two groups. That is to say, under a limited condition, we can distinguish individuals with interpersonal relatedness personality trait from others.
