The Report On The Translation Of English Contracts

With the development of China's economy and the ever-increasing communications with foreign countries,a growing number of people choose to go to the UK for studying,working and living,as a result,lease contracts are becoming widely used.As most of Chinese have little knowledge of British law,the translation of English house lease contract is of great significance because it is useful for their understandings of the contract and their performances of the responsibilities and obligations under the contract.This report aims to explore the difficulty of translation of legal contracts and its corresponding strategies by combining the criterion for legal document translation.As legal text is of strong specialization,and legal translation is a dual activity carried out simultaneously with legal transfer and language transfer,the author had many problems in the translation project,such as informal uses of sentences and inaccurate use of words.Therefore,in order to solve these problems,the author adopts he author uses inductive method,literature analysis method and case analysis method to analyze the text,and proposes the best solution with certain translation skills.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the background,content and significance of the research of this report.In the second chapter,the author talks about the translation project in detail from aspects of the content,translation requirements and practical significance of the project.In the third chapter,the author describes the general process of the translation project from the pre-translation preparation,translation stage and post-translation stage.In the fourth chapter,the author discusses the problems in the translation process from the lexical level and the sentence level,and proposes the best solution.In terms of vocabulary,the author mainly discusses the translation of modal verbs,the use of conversion,addition and reduction.In terms of sentences,the author focuses on the translation of passive sentences and long sentences.At the end of the report,the author makes a summary of the translation studies in the past two years,and proposes that in today's fast-developing information age,a qualified translator should not only possess language skills,but also equip himself with the basic computer skills,capabilities of information retrieval,CAT tooling application,terminology and post-editing.Through the translation practice,the author realizes that the most important thing in legal text translation is to maintain the accuracy,smoothness,professionalism and sameness of the translation text so as to achieve the purpose of translation.In the end,not only the author's translation ability but also the ability to collect information and screen information has been significantly enhanced in the process of translation.In addition,the author hopes that this report will be able to contribute to the contract translation research and provide reference for future contract translators.
