| This report chooses Chapter One of Climate Change and Renewable Energy—How to End the Climate Crisis as the source text, which mainly describes to us a series of serious problems caused by global warming, such as bleached-out coral, acidic seawater, melting glaciers and so on.In the process of translation, the translator finds a large number of dash structures in the source text, which are also the focus of this translation practice. Therefore, based on the Cohesion Theory and three cohesive functions of dash structures, this report mainly analyzes five translation strategies for dash structures with some typical examples selected from the translated version.Based on this practice, the translator hopes to greatly enhance the readability and logic of the translation first and then provide some useful suggestions for the future translation of dash structures. This report is divided into five chapters.Chapter One gives a brief introduction to the translation task, the source text and its linguistic features.Chapter Two reviews the whole process of this translation practice.Chapter Three mainly discusses the Cohesion Theory and the cohesive functions of dashes as the theoretical framework of this report.Chapter Four divides the translation examples of dash structures into three categories according to the cohesive functions of dashes, namely elaboration, extension, and enhancement, and then discusses the translation methods for dashes structure through concrete analysis, which are respectively embedding, recasting, cutting, amplification and reversing.Chapter Five is a summary of the translator’s findings and shortcomings in this translation practice. |
