A Practice Report On Coherence In Chinese Translation:Developmental Psychology-from Infancy To Adulthood

The practice report is based on the first and second chapters of Developmental Psychology-From Infancy to Adulthood 4^th edition,focusing on semantic coherence interpretation,aiming at the translation problems found in the initial translation,and adopting relevant strategies as solutions,to explore the effectiveness and practical value of semantic coherence interpretation of English Academic Texts.The selected text is a textbook for developmental psychology,which has strong academic,professional,close logic and precise words.The whole text shows strong semantic coherence through various cohesive devices.Due to the differences between Chinese and English in cohesive and coherent expressions,the interpretation of semantic coherence has become a difficulty in this translation practice.Through the review and analysis of the initial translation,the translation problems are defined as:lexical semantic incoherence,intrasentence semantic incoherence and inter-sentence semantic incoherence.For the lexical semantic incoherence,the author use lexical addition translation,prepositional transformation and lexical repetition as solutions;for the intrasentence semantic incoherence,the author use sentence segmentation,voice conversion and reordering as solutions;for the lexical semantic incoherence,the author use causal relationship adjustment,timing relationship adjustment and clause adjustment relationship adjustment as a solutions.This paper is guided by Halliday's semantic translation theory and the relevant theories of domestic scholars such as Wang Dongfeng.The comparative analysis of the cases after the modification shows that the semantic coherence interpretation has certain guiding value for the analysis and definition of translation problems and the proposal of solutions.The selected semantic coherence interpretation solutions have certain effectiveness.Compared with the initial translation,the semantic coherence of the modified translation is more consistent and the quality of the translation is improved.
