This translation practice is based on the fourth and fifth chapters of the book US-China Strategic Competition:Towards a New Power Equilibrium. In this book,a large number of historical facts have been quoted to demonstrate that the strategic competition between China and the United States is moving toward a new balance stage. This book is an international relations text,in which numerous research issues and complex sentence structure ensure the text is coherent both in semantics and logic. However, the differences in logic, thinking patterns and cultural background between English and Chinese languages make it difficult to restructure the coherence of the source text during the translation practice. In order to reach coherence in structure and realize the communicative function, the translator needs to recombine the semantic relations, logical deduction and writing styles as much as possible. Therefore, this paper mainly discusses the achievement of coherent equivalence between the target and source text in three aspects:semantic coherence, logical coherence and stylistic coherence. In terms of different levels of coherence problems, corresponding solutions are given in this paper combining with cases. In conclusion, the translator needs to cultivate discourse consciousness, identifying coherence structures, logical levels and stylistic features of the source text, and translate them with appropriate Chinese expressions. The author has benefited a lot from this translation practice and sincerely hopes that the report could provide some reference to related translation studies.
