The Coherence Reconstruction In The E-C Translation Of An Academic Text

This translation report is based on the fourth chapter of Business Cycles A Theoretical,Historical and Statistical Analysis of the Capital Process,demonstrating the contours of economic evolution and stressing the role of entrepreneurs' innovation in realizing prosperity.Innovation serves as not only an effective method for coping with economic rescission but also a useful tool to foreshadow a next recession.Hence,this report offers a valuable reference for both entrepreneurs and policymakers.The chosen book is an academic text in economic field,where various cohesive devices are used to make the text logically cohesive.The differences of cohesive devices between Chinese and English make the coherence reconstruction difficult.In order to reconstruct discourse coherence and to make the translation logically clear and cohesive at grammatical,semantic and pragmatic levels,the author,guided by the discourse coherence theory,adopts translation method of liberal translation and such translation techniques as omission,addition and shift including that of word classes,voices and sentence structures.Besides,conversion,explicitation and implication of cohesive devices are also used.The translation practice helps the author to get a deeper understanding of discourse coherence of an academic text.It is hoped that this report serves a reference for related translation practice.
