A Practice Report On Reconstruction Of Textual Cohesion And Coherence In Chinese Translation Of Food Security

This translation practice is based on Chinese translation of some chapters of the book Food Security and focuses on cohesion and coherence of discourse.Aiming at the translation problems found in the initial translation,this practice report analyzes the effectiveness and practical value of the solutions adopted in the revised translation.As an important issue directly related to the national economy and the people's livelihood,affecting social stability and national development,food security has always attracted much attention.So the Chinese translation of this book is of reference value and significance.The original text is social science text,which has the characteristics of cohesive,logical and highly coherent.Therefore,how to reflect the cohesion and logic of the original text in target language text and how to reproduce the coherence of the translated text have become the focus and difficulty of this translation practice.By reviewing and analyzing the initial translation,the translation problems affecting the cohesion and coherence of the translated text are summarized as:the differences of cohesive devices,the inconsistencies in the intersentential cohesion,and the unclarity of semantic logic.Reference cohesion reconstruction,substitution cohesion reconstruction and lexical reiteration and collocation cohesion reconstruction are used as the solutions of cohesive and coherent reconstruction to deal with the problem of differences of cohesive devices.The clarifying reconstruction of implicit cohesion,the hiding reconstruction of explicit cohesion,and the transformation reconstruction of intersential conjunctions are put forward to solve the problem of inconsistencies in intersentential cohesion of conjunctions.And logical order change reconstruction,hidden information supplement reconstruction and omitting logical redundancy reconstruction are used to solve the problem of the unclarity of semantic logic.The practice report and case analysis indicate that cohesion and coherence of discourse play an important role in guiding translation of related texts,the selected strategies have a certain effect on the translation problems,and the quality of translation has been obviously improved.
