A Practice Report On Textual Cohesion And Coherence Chinese-English Simultaneous Interpretation From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory Taking CCTV Documentary China's Mega Project ?as An Example

With the significant improvement of overall national strength and the rising of international ranking of comprehensive strength,China has gained more international discourse power.It is understood that simultaneous interpreting is adopted in 95%international high-end conferences.In order to overcome the obstacles for communication between Chinese and other languages and accurately and efficiently convey China's voice,study into how to ensure the coherence of Chinese English simultaneous interpretation(SI)has been more practically significant.This is a practice report of Chinese-English SI which takes the first two episodes of the CCTV documentary China's Mega Project II as an example.Through the analysis of the target language,three reasons that influence the coherence of the target language are summarized from the perspective of the original language.They are referential ambiguity,illogicality,redundancy of components.Under the guidance of Interpretative Theory and previous research results,corresponding interpreting strategies were proposed towards those typical problems.The research shows that using specific referent and changing the voice of a sentence can effectively solve the problem of referential ambiguity;Making the logic of sentences explicit and supplementing implicit information can make the target language logically coherent;Omitting minor information and reorganizing information can highlight key information and avoid redundant components.Applying the above methods in SI can prevent inappropriate cohesion,which can effectively enhance the textual coherence of the target language and reduce the workload of the interpreter.It is hoped that this paper will play an active role in the study of cohesion and coherence in SI.
